How healthy are you?

Are you one of those people who doesn’t eat enough fruit and veg, lives in a house without a smoke alarm and dosen’t bother with a flu shot?  To find out how you shape up against your neighbours in the South Eastern Sydney and Illawarra areas, read the report now.

The NSW Department of Health produces annual reports on adult health, its aim is to assist with monitoring the health status of the population, and to support policy development and service planning. The latest 2008 reports have now been published. They are produced for each area health service from the continuous New South Wales Population Health Survey.

These reports have identifed a number of indicators about adult health and presented them in graphical and tabular forms. The indicators include:

  • Health behaviours: alcohol, immunisation, injury prevention, nutrition, physical activity, and smoking
  • Health status: self-rated health, asthma, diabetes or high blood glucose, mental health, oral health, and overweight & obesity
  • Health services: health service use & access, emergency department presentations, hospital admissions, and public dental services
  • Social capital: trust in people, contact with neighbours.
